On the 10th of August 1874, a son Antanas was born to the family of lowland peasants Jonas and Julijona Smetonos in Užulėnis, Taujėnai eldership. The house, where the publicist, the public and cultural activist, the signatory of the Independence Act of the 16th February 1918 and the President of Republic of Lithuania, Antanas Smetona was born, perished. Only foundations and layout of the house remained.
