There are three Calvaries in the territory of Lithuania: in Vilnius, in Žemaičių Kalvarija and in Vepriai. The latter is located between lake Veprys and the river Šventoji, in the south-eastern part of Vepriai. Its total length is 5.5 km. Calvaries of Vepriai continues through the 35 Stations of the Cross road. Along the Way of the Cross, there are stations of the suffering Mother of God. These stations are called “Mary’s paths” by the locals. These are the last 12 stations of the Way of the Cross and go in the opposite direction.

The Vepriai calvary was established in 1846. At first, the chapels were wooden, forged from boards, and later was built from bricks. in 1923 on the initiative of priest Mirskis, the old, decaying paintings of Calvary were replaced with new ones painted on galvanized tin, unfortunately of much lower artistic value. in 1963 The Calvaries were demolished (except for those in the churchyard), The Ways of the Cross were ploughed. Still, the faithful continued to walk the Way of the Cross marking its stations with handmade crosses.

Calvaries in Vepriai was restored at the very dawn of the independence in 1989-1990 by the donations and initiative of the community of believers.
