A meteorite in Žemaitkiemis






On the 2nd of February in 1933, at about 8:30 pm, a meteorite fell in Žemaitkiemis village. This unique stone that fell from the sky was the analogue of the nucleus of the earth, a contemporary of our planet, and it is not only the largest, but also the last of these cosmic bodies that have been spotted and recorded in Lithuania. People found twenty pieces of Žemaitkiemis meteorite, the largest of which weighed 7.3 kg, and the total mass of pieces reached over 42 kg.
